It's great to see so much water pouring into the inner estuary at high tide!

From the end of September to the end of this week, workers tied re-bar together to reinforce the concrete surface of the bridge deck.  The yellow device above the deck provides a walkway for workers.  Concrete is supposed to be poured on Monday, October 12.

In addition, the ramp was finally filled with dirt to provide a ramp as opposed to the stair-step structure.  Some of us were worried that our kayaks might have a bumpy trip down to the beach!

When asked when the bridge project will be done, answers vary.  But it seems unlikely that things will be done by Halloween.

Is it our imagination, or does it seem like MORE water is getting into the estuary now that the channel is open?!

On Monday, concrete was poured onto the bridge deck.  The  boom can extend as much as 150 feet.  Nine and a half concrete trucks were used, about 120 yards of concrete.  One worker estimated that the bridge deck is about 16 inches thick.

On Wednesday, workers began bringing in dirt to prepare the roadbed on the uphill side of the bridge.

This week was paving week!  After a few more days of road bed preparation, on Thursday, crews laid asphalt on the west end of the bridge approach and onto Southworth Drive.  Later in the day, they paved the east side.  Dump trucks full of hot asphalt were poured into a hopper-like part of the paving machine.  It laid the first layer for both lanes by the end of the day.

On Friday, crews laid the second layer on top of the first.  They also laid asphalt up driveways and Inlet lane.  The larger road roller made our house vibrate, and the little one kept us entertained rolling across the road lanes and up onto driveways.
